7 Simple yet Memorable Marriage Proposal Ideas

Sharon Mundia aka This Is Ess’s proposal is perhaps the most talked about engagement in the country – ever. It was all over the social networks and blogosphere for more than a minute. If you are one of the few who didn’t hear about it you can catch her story on her blog.

Truth be told, her proposal is one of those heart-warming love stories that you’d love to listen to repeatedly. From falsely being treated to a weekend away, to the chills of a helicopter ride over breathtaking landscapes, and finally those four magical words; “will you marry me?” Disney couldn’t have written a better fairy tale.

It might not be on the same scale as Lonina’s (Sharon’s beau – c’mon man, I thought you were following the story), but your proposal story is arguably going to be the most told story throughout your married life. Making a memorable proposal is certainly not be a walk in the park, which is why we think that the following romantic and infallible proposal ideas will certainly help sweep your soon-to-be-fiancé off her feet.

  1. Pop the question at your favourite(st) place.
Choosing a place that has sentimental or personal significance to the both of you would be a good place to start. Like for instance, you can take your girl to the exact place where you had your first date. A little reminiscence will surely mellow her down well before you pop the big question.
  2. Take her on a treasure/scavenger hunt.
Ever watched the Amazing Race? How about sending your unsuspecting girlfriend on a treasure hunt looking for clues, ending with the best clue of all – an engagement ring? Granted, it does take a lot of meticulous planning, but it is sure going to make a very good story for your grand kids.
  3. Pull a chocolate box surprise.
If your girl loves chocolate, then pulling this may be pretty easy. Get her a box of chocolate and replace a piece of chocolate with the ring. Immediately after she opens the box, get down on your knees and do your thing.
  4. Do a restaurant proposal (a bit cliché but still romantic).
You can never go wrong with a restaurant proposal. You may need to call the restaurant beforehand seeking advice on the best way to propose and whether they can offer you any help. For instance, you may request them to have the proposal spelt out on a plate or have the rings delivered along with your orders.
  5. Plan a romantic picnic.
Take your girl on a romantic picnic placing the ring in with the dessert. After a leisurely meal, get down on one knee as you help her take out the dessert and wait for the opportune moment when she inadvertently has handed you the container with the ring in it.
  6. Surprise her while sensually pampering her.
You may choose to give your girl a sensual massage, opting to strategically leave her left hand for last. As you massage the hand, slip the ring on and pop the BIG Q.
  7. You will never go wrong with a birthday surprise.
If your girl’s birthday hasn’t passed yet, this would be grand. You may choose to make it a small intimate affair, may be by inviting her at your place for dinner then popping the question after dinner. Alternatively, you can make it a big event inviting her family and close friends to help you plan the surprise.

Obviously, this list is nowhere near comprehensive. It is a starter list at best, so if you have your own proposal ideas or story that you would love to share, please post it in the comments section below.
